Al-Bāsiṭ
The Extender, The Expander
Root ب س ط (b-s-ṭ). Lane gives basaṭahu as ‘he spread it out; expanded it; extended it; made it wide, or ample’. Basṭa means abundance or amplitude, appearing in Qur'an 2:247. Bisāṭ describes an expanse spread out in Qur'an 71:19, while mabsūṭatān refers to hands outstretched in Qur'an 5:64. Though Al-Bāsiṭ is not in the Qur'an as a name of Allah, bāsiṭ occurs of others in 13:14, and the verb is used of Allah: ‘Allah extends provision’ (2:245; 13:26).
