Al-Muqsiṭ
The Equitable, The Just
Root ق س ط (q-s-ṭ). Qisṭ is a just share, with a reversal in meaning seen between the terms: aqsaṭa means he acted justly, while qasaṭa means he acted unjustly, according to Lisān al-ʿArab. Qisṭ, meaning equity, appears in Qur'an 55:9. The term qāsiṭūn refers to those who deviate from justice in Qur'an 72:14. Aqsaṭ translates as more just in Qur'an 2:282, while muqsiṭīn means the just, seen in Qur'an 49:9. Although the Qur'an does not use Al-Muqsiṭ as a name of Allah, muqsiṭīn describes people loved by Allah. Lisān al-ʿArab explains Al-Muqsiṭ as the Just. In 3:18 Allah is ‘maintaining justice (bil-qisṭ)’.
