As-Salām
The Source of Peace, The Flawless
Root س ل م (s-l-m). In ordinary usage, Lane gives salima as to be or become safe or secure, and free from evils. Salīm means sound and whole, as in qalb salīm in Qur'an 26:89. Islām is the word for submission to Allah, and a muslim is one who submits. Salam means surrender or peace, as in Qur'an 4:90. Al-Rāghib describes salāma as being free of both outward and inward defects. In 59:23 Allah is named among ‘the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection’, where Sahih International renders As-Salām as ‘the Perfection’.
