Al-Muḥṣī
The Reckoner, The Accounter of All
Root ح ص ي (ḥ-ṣ-y). Lane gives aḥṣāhu as ‘he numbered, counted, reckoned it’ or ‘reached the last number thereof’; the root also gives ḥaṣā, pebbles. Aḥṣā, used in Qur'an 72:28, means he has enumerated. The term tuḥṣūhā, found in Qur'an 14:34, means you could count them. The name Al-Muḥṣī itself does not appear as a noun or name of God in the Qur'an. However, the verb from this root is used of Allah, as in ‘He has enumerated all things in number’ (72:28).
